FAQ
Q: What is the recommended file size for MediaTeam?
A: Symbiant Group recommends that the maximum file size for good playback in either Local or Team mode is less than 10 megs. This file size limit is due mostly to Groove-related speed issues. As the Groove platform increases in speed over the next few releases, MediaTeam will work more efficiently.
Q: I have put a 3 meg file in the tool, but Groove is showing that 6 megs are getting sent to the other participants. Why?
A: The answer to why media files put into MediaTeam get doubled in size lies more in how Groove handles data and transmits it to other participants. When sending a file, Groove encodes it with security and other related information. This is why the file size is doubled when it is sent.
Q: What types of media files do MediaTeamPreview and MediaTeamLite work with?
A: MediaTeamPreview and MediaTeamLite are designed to work with the Microsoft Windows Media Player 7. The Windows Media Player works with the following formats: Audio Visual Interleave (.avi), Moving Pictures Experts Group (.mpg, .mpeg, .m1v, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .mpe, .mpv2, .m3u), Musical Instrument Digital Interface (.mid, .midi, .rmi), Macintosh AIFF Resource (.aif, .aifc, .aiff ), Sun Microsystems and NeXT (.au, .snd ), Audio for Windows (.wav), CD Audio Track (.cda), Intel Video Technology (.ivf),Windows Media Player Skins (.wmz, .wms), Algebraic-Code-Excited Linear Prediction QuickTime Content (.mov, .qt)
MediaTeam does NOT support the following file formats: Real Networks Content (.ra, .rm, .ram), QuickTime Content (.avi, .mov, .qt), DivX
Q: I can not find the "Add File" and/or "Delete File" buttons, and/or the "Team Review" checkbox.
A: If you are running MediaTeam in the Preview Mode you will only be able to see the "Add File" button. Deleting files and Team Review are not supported in Preview mode. If you have purchased MediaTeamLite, you might need to either click the "Hide Chat" button, or decrease the size of the chat window area, by selecting the top border of the chat window and pulling it down until you see the "Add File" and "Delete File" buttons as well as the "Team Review" checkbox.
Q: When I press play, my participant's MediaTeam tool doesn't start playback for several seconds. Why is this?
A: All messages sent from MediaTeam are sent over the Internet and in best case scenarios enable seemingly instantaneous playback on remote machines. Often though, Internet traffic may slow down these control messages and will arrive "late" to a participant's machine. There is nothing that Symbiant Group, Groove, you or your Internet provider can do about this at this time.
Q: I have one movie playing and have double-clicked another movie to get it to play but it did not.
A: In Local Review mode, you will then need to select play. In Team Review mode, you will need to wait until the currently loaded movie finishes playing or is reset. You may then double-click the new file and it will load into the media review window.
Q: Why do some of my movies play back visually distorted?
A: Since the Windows Media Player in MediaTeam is set to scale movies to fit the viewing area; movies that were not saved to match the same scale appear distorted or stretched.
Q: When I load a media file into the player it doesn't work as fast as if I just dropped the file into the self-standing Windows Media Player, why?
A: This lag in display time is in part due to the various encryption layers that Groove wraps a file in as well as various technical issues with how Groove handles tools.
Q: My MediaTeamPreview or MediaTeamLite software is not working with my copy of Groove 1.3.
A: MediaTeamPreview and MediaTeamLite has not been designed to work with Groove 1.3. We do not support Groove 1.3. We recommend that you upgrade to Groove 2.0.
Q: I've installed MediaPlayer but it is not playing my files.
A: Make sure that you have installed Microsoft(R) Windows Media Player 7. If you have need to download and install it click here.
